Sad news about someone who had an inexplicable influence on me. Didn’t know him personally, but couldn’t even explain the impact VOID had on me some 20+ years ago. Thinking back to the impact songs like “Who are You” had on me, it’s crazy to even consider.

Wow, 25 years. That’s nuts. We’re all getting older every day, but it’s things like that which really push me over the edge. Had the same weird nostalgic “holy shit” feeling a couple of years ago when I realized that I’d seen Black Flag 20 (!!) years previous in Syracuse NY.
Good stuff either way… lots has passed, but there’s been some good times, and I can’t really complain.

Or whatever. Rapidly feeling like my (already eclectic) tastes are further degrading. I’ve found myself listening to a wider and wider variety of music lately. It’s good, but means there’s even less time in the day to consume everything I’d like to hear.

On that front, started another blog to cover some of the weirder things I’m picking up. It’s over at indiepunk.net where I’ll partition off the non-punk crap I’m listening to. Think everything from Plastikman to New Pornographers.

R.I.P. Lance Hahn

Would certainly love to be wrong, but hearing Lance had his health problems get the best of him. I know he’d been struggling with a number of really serious medical conditions for a while now, but this still has me totally shell-shocked.

Great guy, in it for all the right reasons, never compromised. Few like him …..

Been thinking about the Minutemen a lot lately. I remember hearing D Boon died on my local punk radio show (Disorder Show, WITR Radio in Rochester NY) and not really knowing who that was. Years later, I chanced upon the minutemen and was immediately struck with how innovative and punk they were. The fact they didn’t care at all what you thought and would play what they wanted, mellow or not, totally struck me.

Interesting to evaluate the two things. Have been thinking about using blogger, since it’s easy. That said, it’s part of the google juggernaut, which I’m uncertain about. As much as I like the bulk of their stuff, it’s weird to see the web moving entirely to google provided junk.

Props to Alternative Tentacles… imagine that!

So Alternative Tentacles sent me some stuff recently which was really nice, and I thought…. damn. Too bad I don’t have a good way to give them some props. I’ve definitely been a critic of theirs at times in the past, but it was super nice that they bothered to send me anything at all. Not to mention it’s stuff I’d actually enjoy — the Mad and Mentally Ill retrospectives.

Thinking about doing something like a blog to keep some props flowing — would like to publicly thank the folks who’ve been helping by tossing some swag my way — it’s appreciated. We’ll see how this develops, and how my interest is maintained.

If nothing else, it’s got me interested in things like CSS, which is intriguing…..
